What an accident?!?!

What a day.....what an accident?!  March 20, 2022 started as a normal beautiful day....the kind where we are typically outside the majority of the day. Raegan was riding her small four wheeler with all the proper safety precautions, helmet, etc.  Her cousin decided to join her as she was getting ready to head home.  Raegan pulled off to the side since she was tired and needed to go home.  Unfortunately, Keagen wasn't looking where he was headed at that time and hit her from behind.  A trip to the ER initially revealed her left arm was broken, many abrasions, and her front tooth was broken as well.  She battled through the manipulation of her left arm and remained wide awake even with adult medication doses.  It was terrifying!  (Keep in mind I am writing this almost three months later in an effort to account for some things, but not everything we went through.  It was by far one of the most trying times we have been through).  Luckily, she was scheduled to go to the dentist the following day for a cleaning, so that turned into a filling on the front tooth instead.  The dentist wants the filling to last as long as possible as her mouth grows and her teeth shift.  Eventually she will have to have a crown, but we do not know the timeline of that now.  Two days after the accident we were able to get into the orthopedic doctor and he said we will hard cast the left one when it's ready and resplint it today, however we need to go ahead and get something on the right arm as well.  We had to questions why the right arm needed something as we had not been told anything was wrong with it at the ER.  The doctor said, "Did noone tell you the right arm is broken as well?".  NOPE, what a surprise!  The right arm suffered a plastic fracture and would be placed in a brace for an unspecified amount of time as well.  We had to get creative with fish tank tubing for straws, learning how to dress, showering (hair washing), using the bathroom.....all the things that you take for granted on a normal day became our daily challenges.  Raegan was such a tough cookie the whole time, even through the struggles that discouraged her and the pain.

She was so excited to receive small gifts of encouragement during her struggles....a few special people sent her treats.....stuffed animals, ice cream cards, balloons, books, and goodie baskets.
Three weeks post accident we were able to get the hard cast on the left arm.
She chose Carolina blue of course!!
